Where to learn in Edinburgh

Types of padel lesson

Most clubs offer a mix of these. If you've never played, start with a beginner session, then join a group class at your level.

Beginner and taster sessions
A short coached session, often an hour, that covers the grip, the basic shots and how the walls work. The quickest way to find out whether padel is for you; many clubs lend rackets, but ask when you book.
Group classes
Three to eight players with one coach, usually grouped by level. Cheaper per person than a private lesson, and a good way to meet people to play with.
Private lessons
One coach for you, or you and a partner, for 45 to 60 minutes. Best for fixing a specific shot or moving up a level quickly. Check whether the court is included in the price.
Coached matchplay
Games with a coach on court who stops play to correct positioning and shot choice. Suits players who know the basics and want to play better matches rather than drill shots.
Junior coaching
After-school and holiday sessions for children, usually grouped by age. Some clubs run academies with regular squads.

£16

per person, typically. £10 to £16 across 3 clubs.

Before your first lesson

Do I need my own racket for a padel lesson?

Not always. Many clubs lend or hire rackets for beginner sessions, but it varies, so ask when you book. Wear trainers with a flat, non-marking sole.

Do I need to be a member?

Usually not. Pay-and-play venues sell lessons to anyone; members' clubs sometimes restrict coaching to members or charge non-members more. Each listing links to the club's own coaching or booking page so you can check.

Can I learn padel if I've never played a racket sport?

Yes. Beginner sessions assume no experience, and padel's smaller court and underarm serve make the first rally easier than in tennis.

How long is a padel lesson?

Most beginner sessions and group classes last an hour; some run 90 minutes. Private lessons are usually 45 to 60 minutes. Each listing links to the club's own page with its timetable.

Are there lessons for children?

Many clubs run junior sessions, academies and holiday camps. Use the Juniors filter above, then check age groups with the club.
